The letter of 1 John
AN ANALYSIS
Part 1 of 2
Note to the
reader.
This is an analysis of the first letter of John only. There
are many books in the bible and 1 John is only one book. The analysis therefore does not depict the
complete picture of a Christian’s walk with Christ as it is just a portion of
the Scriptures.
The analysis is therefore not complete neither is it
comprehensive for the bible has 66 books and this analysis is based on only one
book of the bible.
What is
unique about 1 John.
The book was written as a letter by Apostle John. The letter
of John is very vocal and straight to the point regarding its message. In this
letter John the Apostle does something comparative with what the scriptures say
Jesus shall do at the white throne judgment: SEPARATE THE SHEEP FROM THE GOATS.
Jesus said:
Matt 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of
these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least
in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in
the kingdom of heaven.20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall
exceed [the righteousness] of the
scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord,
Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my
Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not
prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name
done many wonderful works?23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart
from me, ye that work iniquity.24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth
them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:25
And the rain
descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Notice
that in this scripture Jesus is not talking of Unbelievers but Belivers who
even operated in spiritual gifts of The Holy Spirit – they prophesied, cast out
devils and did many wonderful works and yet he shall say ‘I never knew you’ and
his judgment of their work shall be ‘ iniquity’.
This leads
us to: Phil 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always
obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out
your own salvation with fear and trembling.
It is
therefore not enough to know Christ and to believe in Him but we are also
required to walk in HIM, TO CRUCIFY THE OLD MAN and Put on the New Man. 2Cor 5:17 Therefore
if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are
passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Eph 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have
been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former
conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23
And be renewed in
the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in
righteousness and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his
neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun
go down upon your wrath:27 Neither give place to the devil. 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but
rather let him labour, working with [his]
hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29
Let no corrupt
communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of
edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30
And grieve not the
holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.31
Let all bitterness,
and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you,
with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one
another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Now let’s see how the Word of God separates the Sheep from the
Goats in 1 John.
True Christianity pure and
acceptable to God/CHILDREN OF GOD

Deceived Christianity /CHILDREN OF
THE DEVIL
|
Verse
|
You get (full) joy in hearing the word of
God.
|
1:4
|
Claiming or thinking to be in fellowship with
Him yet walking in darkness. This is lying and not doing the truth.
|
1:6
|
Walking in the light, as he is in the light, we
have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son
cleanseth us from all sin
|
1:7
|
Saying that you have no sin - we
deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us
|
1:8
|
Confessing our sins- he is faithful and just to
forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness
|
1:9
|
Saying that you have not sinned- we make him a liar,
and his word is not in us.
|
1:10
|
Sins not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous………..
Everyone who resides in him does not sin; everyone who sins has
neither seen him nor known him.
Everyone who has been fathered by God does not practice sin,
because God’s seed resides in him, and thus he is not able to sin, because he
has been fathered by God.
|
2:1
3:6
3:9
|
Not keeping his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is
a liar, and the truth is not in him
|
2:4
|
Keeping his
commandments.
…….and
whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do
the things that are pleasing to him
And the person who keeps his commandments resides in God,
and God in him. Now by this we know that God resides in us: by the Spirit he
has given us.
|
2:3
3:22
3:24
|
Hating your Brother. He
that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even
until now
He that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in
darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath
blinded his eyes.
|
2:9
2:11
|
Keeping his word: whoso
keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we
that we are in him
|
2:4
|
Loving the world. If any man love the world, the love
of the Father is not in him.
|
2:14
|
Walking as Jesus did. He that saith he abideth in
him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked
|
2:6
|
Love of the flesh.
For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh,
and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is
of the world.
|
2:16
|
Love your Brother. He
that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of
stumbling in him
….. Now this is his commandment: that we
believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he
gave us the commandment.
|
2:10
3:23
|
Lust of the eyes. For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh,
and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is
of the world.
|
2:16
|
Is strong, (has) the word
of God abide in him/her; overcome the wicked one. I have written unto you, fathers,
because ye have known him [that is] from the beginning. I have written
unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in
you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
|
2:14
|
Pride of life.
For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh,
and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is
of the world.
|
2:16
|
Does not Love the world neither the things
that are in the world. Love not the world, neither the things [that
are] in
the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
|
2:15
|
Leaving the body of Christ.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had
been of us, they would [no doubt] have continued with us: but [they
went out], that
they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
|
2:19
|
Does the Will of God. but he that doeth the will of
God abideth for ever
|
2:17
|
Tells Lies
… and that no lie is of the truth
|
2:21
|
Letting the Truth of Christ remain in you.
Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the
beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in
you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
|
2:24
|
Denying that Jesus is the
Christ.
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the
Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [(but)
he that acknowledgeth][ the Son][ hath][ the Father][ also].
|
2:22
2:23
|
Is taught and learns from the anointing that indwells
him/her.
Now as for you, the anointing that you received from him resides
in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing
teaches you about all things, it is true and is not a lie. Just as it has
taught you, you reside in him.[NET]
|
2:27
|
Continues sinning
Everyone who resides in him does not sin; everyone who sins has
neither seen him nor known him.
The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has
been sinning from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was
revealed: to destroy the works of the devil.
|
3:6
3:8
|
Practice righteousness. If you know that he is righteous, you
also know that everyone who practices righteousness has been fathered by him.[NET]
Little children, let no one deceive you: The one who practices
righteousness is righteous, just as Jesus is righteous.
|
2:29
3:7
|
Does not practice
righteousness
By this the children of God and the children of the devil
are revealed: Everyone who does not practice righteousness – the one who does
not love his fellow Christian – is not of God.[NET]
|
3:10
|
The world does not know you.
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us,
that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not,
because it knew him not.
Therefore do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, if the
world hates you.
|
3:1
3:13
|
Does not love his fellow
Christian
……. the one who does not love his fellow
Christian – is not of God.[NET]
We know that we have crossed over from death to life because we
love our fellow Christians. The one who does not love remains in death.
|
3:10
3:14
|
You purify yourself
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even
as he is pure.
|
3:3
|
Hates his fellow Christian
Everyone who hates his fellow Christian is a murderer, and you
know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
|
3:15
|
Lays down his life for His/Her fellow
Christians
We have come to know love by this: that Jesus laid down
his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow
Christians.
|
3:16
|
Does not Practice
compassion on other Christians
But whoever has the world’s possessions and sees his
fellow Christian in need and shuts off his compassion against him, how can
the love of God reside in such a person?
|
3:17
|
Loves in deed and in Truth
Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in
deed and truth.
|
3:18
